DS18B20 Cable Extension Tips and Shelly Sensor Solutions

Greetings, fellow Shelly enthusiasts! I’m reaching out to seek some advice on a small project I’ve been working on. I’ve installed six DS18B20 temperature sensors across two Shelly 1 units, which has been a great setup so far. However, I’ve encountered a minor issue with the cable lengths. Each sensor only comes with a 1-meter cable, and I need to extend them to cover a larger area in my home. I’m curious if anyone has recommendations on which type of cable would be best for this extension. I’ve heard that certain types of cables can affect signal quality over longer distances, so I want to ensure I choose something reliable.

Another question I have is about the Shelly units themselves. I’ve noticed that the Shelly 1 only has three input channels. I’m wondering if there’s a model available that offers more channels for additional sensors. This would be incredibly useful as I plan to expand my setup in the future. If such a model exists, I’d love to hear about your experiences with it!

I’ve also been exploring different ways to integrate these sensors into my home automation system. For instance, I’ve been using them to monitor temperature variations in different rooms, which has been quite insightful. I’d love to hear how others are leveraging their Shelly units and DS18B20 sensors for unique applications or automations.

If anyone has tips on cable selection, Shelly models with more channels, or creative sensor setups, I’d be grateful for your insights. Let’s keep the discussion positive and collaborative! Looking forward to hearing from you all.

Best regards,
Finn
