Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent journey into setting up a dual Apple HomeKit and SmartThings ecosystem. It’s been quite the adventure, and I thought I’d walk through my experiences and ask for some tips along the way!
So, here’s the backstory: I’ve been a Samsung phone user for years, and my partner and I were gifted a HomePod mini last year. However, we already had a couple of Google Nest Audio speakers, so the HomePod never got much attention. Fast forward six months, and I’ve fully embraced the SmartThings ecosystem. But here’s the catch—I also use a MacBook, and the lack of a desktop SmartThings app has been a minor annoyance. This led me to explore a dual setup, combining Apple and SmartThings, which I hope will be seamless since most of my devices are connected to an Aqara M2 hub, Hue bridge, or are Matter products.
The main question I have is about the pros and cons of using Apple’s ecosystem versus SmartThings. When is it better to lean on one over the other? I’d love to hear from anyone who’s successfully navigated a similar setup, especially tips on optimizing the integration between these two systems. I’m also curious about how others handle device management and automation across both platforms.
Another thing I’ve been pondering is the best way to organize my devices and routines. With both ecosystems, there’s a lot of potential for overlap, and I want to ensure everything works harmoniously without conflicts. Has anyone found a particularly effective strategy for this?
Lastly, I’m based in the UK, and I have two SmartThings stations. I’d be grateful for any regional-specific insights or recommendations!
Thanks in advance for your thoughts and experiences. I’m really looking forward to hearing how others have tackled this and any tips you might have for making the most of a dual Apple/SmartThings setup!
