Dynamic Entity Configuration and Z-Wave Automation Tips

Hey everyone! I’ve been diving into some pretty interesting projects lately and wanted to share my experiences and ask for some advice. First off, I’ve been working on setting up some dynamic entity configurations in Node-RED. Specifically, I’m trying to avoid creating a new call service node for each input_select entity in my setup. For example, I have one for each room, like input_select.master_bathroom_scene_entities. The challenge is dynamically passing the entity to the call service node. Does anyone have tips on how to achieve this? I’ve been looking at Kermit’s examples, but I’m still a bit stuck. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

On another note, I’ve been experimenting with Z-Wave devices and came across a really cool blueprint for a dimmer/scene switch. It’s inspired by Troy’s work on the Inovelli LZW31-SN Dimmer. The blueprint allows for up/down button actions and even includes a hold-down loop for dimmer controls. I’ve managed to port this to work with native Z-WaveJS, which is a huge plus. If anyone is interested, I can share the configuration details or even the blueprint itself!

I also wanted to touch on my experience with ThirdReality switches. Since I’m in a rental and can’t install smart switches, I went with these mechanical ones that slide over existing paddle switches. They’ve been working fine, but I have a few places where two switches control the same light. I’d love to hear if anyone has tackled this setup before and how they managed the state tracking. It seems a bit tricky since the switches physically flip, requiring some inversion of on/off states.

Lastly, I’ve been exploring the Govee outdoor lighting range. Their neon rope lights are absolutely stunning and I’ve been using them to wrap around my outdoor spaces. They’re incredibly easy to set up and the app controls are a breeze. If anyone is looking for affordable, high-quality outdoor lighting, I’d highly recommend checking them out!

If anyone has tips on dynamic entity configuration, Z-Wave automation hacks, or experiences with similar switch setups, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Also, if you’ve tried the Govee outdoor lights, drop a comment below—I’d love to hear your feedback!

Cheers,
