E1 switch without neutral is not working

Hello everyone,

I am trying to install two Aqara (Zigbee) E1 double-button switches without neutral in my bedroom. I want to use them only as wireless switches, so I am connecting only the phase to L and leaving S1 and S2 unconnected. Doing this, I can’t get the switch to power on or perform any pairing. What am I doing wrong? Is it not possible to use them without connecting any outputs? Any help is appreciated.

Hello, you can’t do this, the switch won’t work. The neutral wire through the light bulb gets to the switch circuit and only then does it work. You can apply a capacitor contact to the switch from zero. Then everything will work.

Wow… I didn’t know that. I need to remove 2 toggle switches and, to use them for an RF ceiling fan, I was thinking of installing these switches in a decoupled way (one for the light and one for the fan). From what you’re telling me, I think I bought them for nothing… because it doesn’t make sense to give them an output… :frowning:

If I installed the version with neutral, could I use the buttons the way I want?

Yes, just keep in mind that E1 switches are not designed for the European region. They may not be accepted by Aqara home(Evropa)

Are there three wires in the switch box?

Hi @ihsack87 , you can unbind the keys from the relay and make them wireless (logical) and then set up automation

Why? I currently have a single-button switch that controls the bedroom light and it works without any problem.

That’s what I want to do, but I understand that since I can’t connect it to the light bulb, I need to buy one with a neutral wire to power it and be able to decouple the relay. Thank you very much.

Hello. I also have an E1 switch installed in 2020. Aqara has introduced new regional control rules since 2022. That’s why I write “that there may be problems with connection”. In 2020, there were no such restrictions.
