I’ve always been a bit overwhelmed by the amount of cables that come with smart home devices. Whether it’s for my Govee bulbs, switches, or other gadgets, cables can quickly turn a neat setup into a messy tangle. I decided to tackle this head-on and figured out some tips that might help others too!
First, labeling has been a game-changer. I use a simple label maker to mark both ends of each cable. This way, if I ever need to troubleshoot or rearrange, I don’t end up pulling the wrong plug. It’s such a small step but makes a huge difference!
Next, cable ties and clips have been my new best friends. I’ve been using these to neatly bundle cables behind my TV and along the walls. They keep everything tidy and prevent those frustrating tangles. Plus, they’re easy to remove if I need to adjust something.
Another trick I’ve picked up is using clear plastic cable organizers. These are great for keeping cables off the floor and out of the way. I’ve also found that 3M Command strips are perfect for attaching these organizers to the walls without damaging the paint.
For those longer cables that I can’t seem to hide, I’ve started using decorative cable covers. They blend in nicely with my furniture and give my setup a more polished look. It’s a simple fix, but it really elevates the overall aesthetic.
Lastly, I’ve learned to be mindful of cable length. If a cable is too short, I invest in a quality extension cord that’s the same color as the cable. If it’s too long, I coil the excess neatly and secure it with a clip. This prevents tripping hazards and keeps everything looking clean.
