I’ve been exploring the best way to manage my smart lights, and I thought I’d share my journey and insights. Most of my interactions with smart lights are through voice commands with Alexa—I rarely use the dashboard. This got me wondering: should I manage my light groups within HE or stick with Alexa? Let me walk you through my experience and what I’ve discovered.
I have a rec room with seven different light switches and plugs. Initially, I tried creating a group called ‘Rec Room Lights’ in both HE and Alexa. But things got a bit wonky—sometimes the groups worked seamlessly, and other times they didn’t. It was a bit confusing, to say the least.
After some research and experimentation, I found a solution that works well for me. I decided to create the main group within HE and then use Alexa’s routines to control them. This way, I can still use voice commands without the hassle of managing multiple groups across platforms. It’s been a game-changer!
I’d love to hear how others handle light group management. Do you stick to one platform, or do you mix and match like I do? Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated! Let’s keep the conversation going and help each other find the best setup.
