Efficient Temperature Monitoring for Solar Water Heating

I’ve recently embarked on a project to optimize my family’s energy consumption, particularly focusing on our solar water heating system. The goal is to monitor and control the temperature of various components such as the solar panels, buffer tank, and domestic hot water heater.

For someone relatively new to Home Assistant but with experience in Raspberry Pi and basic electronics, this has been both exciting and challenging. I’ve been researching sensor solutions that are easy to set up and integrate with my existing setup.

One option I’m exploring is a Zigbee sensor bundle that can connect to my Raspberry Pi with a dedicated Zigbee expansion board. This setup would allow me to monitor up to 12 temperature points without the need for extensive wiring, which is ideal given the layout of my technical room.

I’d love to hear from others who have implemented similar systems. What sensors and modules have worked well for you? Any tips on ensuring reliable communication between the sensors and the hub? I’m also curious about how others manage data logging and automation based on temperature readings.

This project is not just about saving energy—it’s about creating a smarter, more efficient home environment. I’m eager to learn from the community’s experiences and insights!
