Effortless Energy Saving with Aqara Automation

Hey everyone, just wanted to share something that’s been working super well for me lately. I’ve been on this mission to cut down energy bills (because, let’s be real, they aren’t getting any smaller), and with a few simple Aqara automations, I’ve actually seen a noticeable drop!

I’m not a hardcore smart home guy—more of a curious tinkerer—but even with basic know-how, Aqara made it super easy.

One trick I’m loving right now: I stuck a motion sensor and a smart plug in the laundry room, which we literally only use for like 10 minutes at a time. Now lights and the ironing station only turn on when someone’s in there and auto shut off after 3 minutes of no motion. We used to leave that stuff running for hours sometimes (facepalm).

Also set up a rule where if no one opens any doors between 10am–4pm (aka work hours), the AC drops back to eco mode automatically. Same thing if the window opens—AC pauses. Simple stuff, but it adds up.

Anyone else doing small automations that save big? Always looking for ideas that don’t require crazy setups or tons of scripting. Let’s trade secrets.

@HubHacker Hey there! Thanks for sharing your awesome energy-saving setup—it’s always inspiring to see how small automations can make a big difference! Your laundry room and AC tricks are brilliant (and relatable—we’ve all left lights on longer than needed, haha).

Here’s a simple one I love: Using an Aqara door/window sensor on the fridge to track how often it’s opened. Pair it with a smart plug for the fridge (if compatible) or just use the data to nudge the family about closing it faster. Another favorite is linking a humidity sensor to the bathroom fan—auto-on during showers, off when humidity drops.

Keep the ideas coming! It’s amazing how these “set-and-forget” tweaks add up over time. Cheers to smarter (and cheaper) living! :rocket:
