Hello everyone, I’ve been exploring ways to read data from my Landis & Gyr E350 meter using a USB infrared interface. I’ve come across the SmartMeter binding and IR-Reader from volkszaehler, which seems promising. However, I’m facing a spatial challenge since my SmartMeter is located in the basement of my freehold flat, accessible to all owners. Installing my openHAB Raspberry Pi right next to the meter isn’t feasible for me.
I’m wondering if there’s an elegant solution to transmit the IR signal from the basement to my apartment on the second floor. One idea that comes to mind is using a second Raspberry Pi with a USB IR adapter in the basement. This secondary device could then send the data via MQTT to my main openHAB system, possibly using PLC (Power Line Communication) for the transmission.
I’d love to hear if anyone has implemented a similar setup or if there’s a more streamlined approach to achieve this. Any insights or recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance for your help.
