ELV ES-GAS-2 and ESP8266 Gas Meter Reading Setup

Hello everyone, I’m currently working on a project to read my gas meter using an ELV ES-GAS-2 module and an ESP8266. I’ve been using Raspberrymatic CCU3 and Homematic thermostats, which I’m very satisfied with. However, I also utilize HomeAssistant and ESPHOME for my smart home setup. My goal is to integrate my gas meter (Elster BK-G4M) into this ecosystem.

I came across a solution that uses a Reed-Kontakt, some adhesive tape, and an ESP8266. While this seems feasible, I find it a bit bulky. So, I decided to invest in the ELV ES-GAS-2 module, which I assumed was just a Reed-Kontakt in a more polished housing. I followed the circuit diagram from this forum post and set up my circuit accordingly.

Unfortunately, the signals I’m receiving don’t match the actual gas meter readings. I’m wondering if my circuit design is fundamentally flawed or if there’s a mistake in my setup. Is the ELV ES-GAS-2 compatible with an ESP8266? If so, what changes should I make to the circuit?

I understand that repurposing devices from the Homematic ecosystem might not be straightforward, but I’m hopeful I can make this work. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance for your help!
