Energy Management Automation: My Experience and Vision

I’ve been thoroughly impressed with the Energy Management Dashboard in Home Assistant. It’s hands down one of my favorite features, providing a clear overview of energy consumption and production. However, I can’t help but imagine how much more powerful this could become if it were expanded into a full-fledged automation platform!

My vision is for a dynamic priority system that could automatically control devices based on solar production. For instance, during peak sun hours, the system could prioritize turning on devices like water heaters or pool pumps. Users could create a list of devices with specific priorities, ensuring that energy is used most effectively when it’s most abundant.

I’ve actually implemented something similar using node-red, but it’s a bit of a workaround. It works, but it’s definitely not as seamless as a built-in solution would be. The frontend could also use some improvement—currently, it’s a bit clunky when adjusting priorities. I’d love to see an interface similar to the shopping integration, where users can easily drag and drop devices into their preferred order.

Overall, I think this integration has a lot of potential. It’s already great, but with these enhancements, it could become indispensable for managing energy efficiently. I’d love to hear what others think about this idea!
