With the upcoming rollout of digital meters in Belgium, I’ve been thinking a lot about how to integrate my smart home devices to make the most of this transition. I’m curious if anyone else has started preparing for this change and how they’re approaching it.
My goal is to automate the scheduling of my smart appliances like the washing machine, dryer, dishwasher, and even the air conditioning system to run during periods when surplus electricity is being fed back into the grid. This could potentially lower my energy costs and reduce my carbon footprint.
But it’s more than just scheduling—I’d love to set up a system that accounts for priorities and allows for manual overrides. For example, if my partner suddenly decides to bake cookies, I’d want the system to pause or adjust accordingly.
Has anyone else tackled a similar project? I’d love to hear about your strategies, tools, or any challenges you’ve encountered along the way. Let’s brainstorm together and see how we can make this a seamless part of our smart homes!
