Energy Monitoring and Smart Home Automation: Tips and Tricks

As someone who’s deeply into smart home automation, I’ve been exploring ways to make my daily life more efficient and enjoyable. One of the challenges I recently tackled was monitoring when my dishwasher is running. Since the light on top of the door isn’t visible due to the countertop, I decided to find a simple and cost-effective solution. I came across using a zigbee energy monitoring plug paired with a Govee LED strip, which seems promising. I’m excited to set this up using Hubitat and see how it integrates with my existing setup.

Another topic that’s been on my mind is whether installing a home security system actually reduces insurance premiums. I reached out to my insurance agent, and while they mentioned that a monitored alarm is great for risk management, it unfortunately doesn’t lower premiums. I’m curious if anyone else has had a different experience or if there are specific systems that do offer discounts.

If you’ve got any tips, tricks, or success stories about energy monitoring, smart home automation, or insurance-related savings, I’d love to hear about them! Let’s share our experiences and learn from each other to make our smart homes even smarter and more efficient.
