Hello everyone! I wanted to share some energy-saving tips and tricks I’ve implemented using Hubitat. Energy prices have been soaring, and I wanted to find ways to reduce waste without compromising on comfort. Here are a few things I’ve done:
Garden Lighting Optimization
I have a set of garden lights that were initially on a timer. However, I realized it was wasteful to have them on if no one was around to see them. Using Hubitat’s Rule Machine, I set them up to operate based on illuminance. They turn off automatically if the alarm is triggered or if the living room curtains are closed. This has significantly reduced unnecessary energy use!
Sonos Amps Energy Management
I have several Sonos Amps throughout my house, and I was curious about their standby power consumption. After some research, I found that grouping them on a single outlet and controlling it with a Fibaro Z-Wave switch allowed me to turn them off when not in use. This setup has been a great way to cut down on standby power.
I also recently added an Aeotec Z-Wave Energy Monitor to track usage more precisely. It’s been eye-opening to see where additional savings might be possible.
