Alright, so I’ve been messing around with my Aqara smart plugs for a few weeks now, and I gotta say—these little guys are sneaky good when it comes to cutting power waste around the house. I’m not some tech wizard or anything, just slowly building up my smart home setup and figuring stuff out along the way.
What I did first was plug in my TV setup to an Aqara plug and set an automation to cut power completely at midnight. Turns out, all those electronics sip power even in standby. I know, it’s not a huge amount, but over time? It adds up. Same thing with my rarely used coffee machine. Why let it stay powered all the time?
The real game changer for me though was using the plugs to monitor usage. The Aqara app shows you energy consumption, and lemme tell you, I was kinda shocked at what I saw. It made it super easy to spot which devices are lowkey energy vampires.
Also, paired them with motion sensors in my work-from-home setup. No movement in the room for 15 minutes? Boom, power off the fan or lamp. Smooth.
Anyone else using smart plugs like this? I’m sure I’m just scratching the surface here. Would love to hear how you all use them to save energy or do something clever. Hit me with your tips!
