Enhancing Comfort with Smart Garage Automation

Summer has always been a challenging time for my garage, with temperatures soaring well above 90°F. After some research, I decided to automate my garage fans to kick in when the heat becomes unbearable. I’ve shared my setup earlier, but I wanted to dive deeper into the process and share some tips that might help others facing similar issues.

First, I started by installing a Govee H5082 Dual Smart Plug, which allowed me to control both my Vornado Shop Fan and Govee space heater/fan. Setting up the automation was straightforward using my smart home system. I configured it to turn on both fans when the temperature sensor reads above 90°F and turn them off once it drops below that threshold.

One thing I encountered was the fans occasionally flickering or not turning off as expected. I discovered that adjusting the temperature thresholds slightly and ensuring the sensor placement was optimal helped mitigate this issue. I also found that using a reliable smart plug with proper power handling was crucial to avoid any unexpected behavior.

For those looking to replicate this setup, I recommend starting with a single fan to test the automation before expanding. It’s also worth checking if your local hardware store offers compatible fans or heaters that can be easily integrated into your smart home ecosystem.

This project has been a game-changer for me, making my garage much more comfortable during the summer months. It’s a simple yet effective way to leverage smart home technology for everyday convenience. I’d love to hear how others have automated their garages or tackled similar challenges!
