Enhancing Home Automation with Smart Lock Detection

I’ve been exploring ways to optimize my home automation setup, and I came across an interesting challenge that I’d love to share and discuss with the community. One feature I’ve been eyeing is the ability to distinguish how my door lock is used—whether it’s locked or unlocked manually, via a code, or with a one-touch entry. This capability could significantly enhance my home’s automation routines, especially considering scenarios like guests arriving or family members coming home late.

For instance, if a guest unlocks the door using a one-touch entry, I’d like the system to automatically adjust the thermostat, turn on specific lights, and perhaps even trigger the vacuum cleaner to start cleaning. On the other hand, if someone manually locks the door after being home, I wouldn’t want these routines to activate. This level of customization would make my home automation much more intuitive and responsive.

I’ve noticed that some platforms, like August, already offer this functionality, but I’m curious about integrating it with other systems or creating a similar setup using IFTTT or other automation tools. Has anyone successfully implemented such a system? I’d love to hear about your experiences, challenges, and solutions. Your insights could be invaluable as I work on refining my setup!
