Hey everyone! I’ve been tinkering with Home Assistant lately and wanted to share a cool automation I set up. It’s something that might interest those of you with projectors or home theaters. ![]()
So, the idea is to pause movie playback automatically when a certain light is turned on. Think about it—how many times have you accidentally bumped a light switch while watching a movie? Now, with this setup, you don’t have to worry about missing a crucial scene because of a misplaced toggle. ![]()
Here’s how it works: When the specified light turns on, the automation pauses the media player. If you turn the light back off within a set timeout (I’ve been testing with 5 minutes), it resumes playback seamlessly. It even tries to detect if it’s just music playing instead of a movie, though my tests were mainly with YouTube Music on a Chromecast. Your mileage may vary, but it’s a solid starting point! ![]()
I’ve shared the blueprint below for anyone interested in implementing this. It’s all about making the home theater experience more seamless and enjoyable. If you give it a try, let me know how it works for you! Are there any tweaks or improvements you’d suggest? I’d love to hear your thoughts! ![]()
