I’ve recently expanded on Danielbook’s amazing automation blueprint for motion activation, and I wanted to share my experience and improvements. The original setup was great, but I found a few areas where I could add more functionality to suit my needs better. Here’s what I did and how it’s working out for me.
First, I incorporated a specific “scene” into the automation. Previously, the lights would just turn on at their last used setting, which wasn’t always ideal. By integrating the Hue integration, I can now trigger a predefined scene that sets the lights exactly how I want them. This feature has made my evenings much more enjoyable, as the lights now consistently create the perfect ambiance.
Another improvement I added was a condition to prevent the automation from triggering if the lights are already on. This means I don’t have to worry about the system overriding any custom scenes I’ve set up manually. It’s a small detail, but it’s made a big difference in terms of convenience.
I also adjusted the turn-off timer to be attached to the motion “off” event. This ensures that the lights stay on as long as there’s motion in the room, and only turn off after a period of inactivity. It’s been great for energy efficiency without sacrificing comfort.
I’d love to hear how others have enhanced their motion activation setups or if there are any additional features people would like to see. Let’s continue to innovate and share our experiences to make our smart homes even smarter!
