Enhancing Smart Lighting with Govee and Shelly

I’ve been diving into the world of smart lighting lately and wanted to share my journey and some tips for anyone looking to enhance their home lighting setup. :star2:

A few months ago, I decided to upgrade my LED strip setup to something more versatile and energy-efficient. I came across the Govee LED strips and paired them with Shelly 2 RGBW controllers. The combination has been fantastic! I can now control my lights via Google Assistant and plan to integrate them into HomeKit for even more seamless control. :video_game::bulb:

One challenge I faced initially was wiring the strips. I divided each wall into 4 sections to maximize brightness, but this resulted in 4 separate light bulb buttons per room. While the Shelly app does offer grouping features, I wanted a more streamlined experience. After some research, I discovered that using virtual devices in my smart home hub allowed me to consolidate these into a single button control. It was a bit of a workaround, but the result is worth it! :hammer_and_wrench::sparkles:

For anyone looking to achieve a similar setup, here are a few tips:

  • Plan your wiring carefully: Decide how many zones you need before installation to avoid unnecessary complexity.
  • Leverage virtual devices: They can be a lifesaver for simplifying control interfaces.
  • Experiment with automation: Pair your lights with motion sensors or schedules for a truly hands-off experience. :rocket:

If you have any questions or tips of your own, I’d love to hear them! Let’s make our homes smarter together! :bulb::house:
