I’ve been diving into enhancing my smart lighting setup, and I wanted to share my experiences and a few tips that might help others. My goal was to create a seamless system where lights turn on with motion and stay on as long as a gate is open, then dim off after a period of inactivity.
Initially, I set up a motion lighting app to trigger lights immediately upon detecting motion or when the gate opens. However, I noticed that the lights would turn off as soon as the gate closed, which wasn’t ideal. To address this, I created a virtual motion sensor and linked it with the real motion sensor. This way, the lights stay on even after the gate closes, ensuring safety and convenience.
Another challenge was adjusting the dimming speed when turning off the lights after 3 minutes of no motion. I discovered that while the app allows setting an on-ramp rate, the off-ramp rate isn’t directly configurable. To work around this, I adjusted the virtual sensor logic to ensure a smooth transition.
I’d love to hear if others have encountered similar issues or if there are more elegant solutions out there. Additionally, I’m curious if anyone has managed to set different dimming speeds for on and off events within the same app. Sharing experiences can really help us all optimize our setups! ![]()
