Enhancing Smart Lighting with Randomized Schedules for Away Mode

Greetings everyone, I hope this message finds you well! I’ve been exploring ways to enhance my home security while away, and I thought I’d share my journey and seek some advice from the community.

Back in the day, I relied on the Vacation Lighting SmartApp to randomly turn lights on and off, which was a great deterrent. However, with the app no longer available, I’ve been experimenting with creating a similar effect using routines.

My goal is to have a few key lights cycle on and off for short intervals, say 5 minutes each, to mimic occupancy. I’ve managed to set up a basic routine, but it doesn’t loop seamlessly, and I’m not sure how to randomize the intervals further.

Has anyone successfully created a routine or used a workaround to achieve randomized lighting schedules? Any tips or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Looking forward to hearing your insights and hopefully implementing a more robust solution. Thanks in advance for your help!

Best regards,
