Hi everyone! I’m so excited to share my journey with Home Assistant and how it’s transforming my smart home setup. As a newbie, I’ve been exploring various ways to integrate sensors and devices, and it’s been an incredible learning experience.
Recently, I decided to add a DHT11 sensor to monitor temperature and humidity in my home. I came across some guides mentioning that official support for this sensor has been dropped, but there’s a workaround by manually installing it under the config folder. I’m currently using Home Assistant via Docker on my Raspberry Pi 4, and I wanted to document my setup process in case others are interested.
Here’s what I did:
- Installed the sensor: I connected the DHT11 sensor to my Raspberry Pi using GPIO pins.
- Configured the sensor: I followed some community guides to manually install the sensor integration in Home Assistant.
- Set up monitoring: I created a simple dashboard to display real-time temperature and humidity readings.
While the setup was a bit challenging at first, the sense of accomplishment after getting everything working was amazing! I’m now exploring more advanced automations, like adjusting my home’s heating based on temperature readings.
I’d love to hear from others who’ve integrated similar sensors or have tips for optimizing sensor performance. The community support here has been fantastic, and I’m eager to contribute my experiences as I grow more comfortable with Home Assistant.
Looking forward to connecting with more enthusiasts and learning even more! ![]()
