Exciting Setup with Wyze Cam and Motion Sensor Automation

Hey everyone! I just wanted to share my recent experience setting up a Wyze Cam v2 and creating an automation with motion sensors. It’s been a fun project, and I thought I’d walk through my journey in case anyone else is looking to do something similar.

First off, the Wyze Cam was a breeze to set up. I followed the instructions, and within minutes, it was connected to my home network. The video quality is fantastic, and the app is super user-friendly. I’ve placed it in my front yard to keep an eye on the driveway and mailbox. It’s definitely given me peace of mind knowing I can monitor my property from my phone.

Now, onto the automation part. I wanted the camera to trigger some lights when motion is detected. I set up a simple rule where the lights turn on when the Wyze Cam detects motion and stay on for a few minutes before turning off again. It’s been working pretty well, but I did run into a couple of hiccups along the way.

At first, I noticed that the motion sensor wasn’t picking up all the events I expected. For example, it would detect a rabbit hopping by but miss the mail carrier. After doing some research, I realized that adjusting the sensitivity settings and setting up a detection zone could help. I played around with these settings, and it made a big difference! Now, it’s much more consistent in capturing the right moments.

Another thing I wanted to mention is the importance of placement. I initially had the camera in a spot where it was getting a lot of false positives from nearby trees. Moving it a few feet made a world of difference. It’s all about finding the sweet spot where it can cover the area effectively without picking up too much background noise.

I’d love to hear from anyone who has experience with similar setups. Do you have any tips for optimizing motion detection? Have you encountered any unique challenges with your Wyze Cam or other smart home devices? I’m always looking for ways to improve my setup, so any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks for reading, and happy automating! :rocket:
