Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience expanding my smart home system. I’ve been using Vera Lite for a while now, and while it’s been great, I’ve hit its capacity limits. I’ve got 24 ZWave switches, 11 motion and door sensors, and a bunch of other devices, and I’m looking to add even more.
I’ve been considering two main strategies: replacing Vera Lite with a Vera 3 or adding another Vera Lite to share the load. I’ve been leaning towards keeping the physical ZWave devices on the existing Vera Lite and moving all the applications to a new unit. But I’m not sure if this will cause latency issues.
I’d love to hear your thoughts—have you had success with meshing two Vera Lite units? How did you handle latency? Also, any advice on managing applications like PLEGs? They seem to work best when on the same unit as the ZWave devices.
On a lighter note, I’ve also been experimenting with custom cards in Home Assistant. I’ve created a family tracking card with dynamic icons and battery indicators. It’s been a fun challenge, and I’m happy with how it turned out!
Thanks for reading, and I look forward to your insights!
