Expanding UPS Coverage and Configuring Smart Lighting

Hi everyone, I’m really excited about diving into the world of smart home automation. Lately, I’ve been working on enhancing my home’s energy management system and have come across some interesting challenges and solutions that I’d love to share and discuss with the community. Expanding UPS Coverage I recently upgraded my UPS setup with a UTS6H panel and a Back-UPS Pro 1500/BR24BPG external battery pack. It’s been a game-changer for powering essential devices during outages. However, I’m curious if there’s a way to expand its coverage without replacing the UTS6H with a 10-circuit model. Currently, it’s feeding six breakers, but I have 42 circuits in total. My thought is—could I split a single UTS6H circuit to power two lightly loaded breakers? This would save me from investing in a larger panel right away. Any insights or experiences on this would be invaluable! Configuring Smart Lighting Scenes On another note, I’ve been experimenting with creating custom lighting scenes in my living room. Using a combination of dimmers and smart bulbs, I want to set up profiles for different activities, like ‘Watch TV’ or ‘Dinner Party’. Each scene requires specific brightness levels for different lights, which I initially thought might be tricky with OpenHAB. However, I discovered that using rules with individual commands for each light works perfectly. For example, I can set Dimmer1 to 40%, Dimmer2 to 60%, and so on. It’s a bit more involved than using a single group command, but the flexibility is worth it! Challenges and Learning I must admit, there have been a few bumps along the way. For instance, getting my Shelly Dimmer 2 to work seamlessly with a GIRA motion sensor took some trial and error. The main issue was the delay in the light turning on after motion was detected. After tweaking the auto-off timer and adjusting the button settings, it now works like a charm! It’s these little victories that keep me motivated to explore more possibilities with my smart home setup. Looking Ahead I’m really excited about the potential of integrating more devices, like the Govee light strips I’ve been eyeing. The idea of having segmented colors around my room’s perimeter sounds amazing, but I’m still figuring out the best way to connect and control them. If anyone has tips or experiences with similar setups, I’d love to hear about them! Smart home automation is such a dynamic and rewarding field, and it’s fantastic to be part of a community that shares knowledge and experiences. I can’t wait to see what other innovative solutions and projects everyone is working on. Let’s keep the ideas flowing and continue to inspire each other!
