Expanding VeraLite Device Count: A Smooth Upgrade Journey

As a homeowner who’s recently delved into the world of smart home technology, I’ve been on a quest to optimize my VeraLite system. With 18 devices currently in use, I’m curious about the best approach to handle the 70-device limit—a goal I foresee reaching sooner than later.

One of my key questions is: Do only physical devices count toward the max device count? I’m referring to items like plugins, smart switches, and PLEGs. If the answer is yes, then I need to plan ahead for when I hit that limit. Should I opt for another VeraLite or upgrade to Vera3 and disable the Wi-Fi? I’ve heard Vera3 offers more flexibility, but I’m not entirely sure how the transition would work.

In the meantime, I’ve been experimenting with integrating devices from various brands, like Govee and Wyze, into my Vera system. It’s been a fascinating journey, and I’ve discovered some clever workarounds for features that were temporarily unavailable, such as video playback from Amazon Photos. For instance, setting up custom scenes and utilizing third-party apps has helped bridge some gaps.

If anyone has insights on Vera3 upgrades or has successfully integrated multiple brands into their system, I’d love to hear about your experiences! Let’s keep the conversation flowing and share tips for making the most out of our smart home setups. :rocket:
