Exploring AC-Powered Contact Sensors for Critical Applications

I’ve been on a quest to eliminate battery-powered devices in my critical home automation tasks, and I wanted to share my journey and findings with the community. For years, I relied on the ECOLINK DWZWAVE2.5-ECO for monitoring a NC relay in my septic pump system. While it worked, the constant battery issues were a source of anxiety, especially during critical alerts at odd hours.

After some research, I stumbled upon the Tuya GDO PJ-ZGD01, a Zigbee 3 device that’s AC-powered and equipped with a contact sensor input. This seemed like the perfect solution for my needs. I tested it extensively, and it performed flawlessly. The device is compact, works worldwide, and integrates seamlessly with my existing Zigbee mesh.

I also experimented with different drivers from the community, such as those by @albertjmulder and @kkossev, and found both to be effective. I’m now working on a custom driver that focuses solely on contact state reporting and power source monitoring.

For anyone looking to eliminate battery dependencies in their contact sensor setups, the Tuya GDO might just be the game-changer you’re searching for. It’s been a reliable addition to my system, and I’m excited to see how others might benefit from this discovery. Happy automating! :rocket:
