Exploring AdGuard Home and Automations in Smart Home Setup

Hey everyone, I’ve been diving into enhancing my smart home setup lately, and I wanted to share some of my experiences and questions with you all.

First off, I switched from Pi-hole to AdGuard Home a while back, and while it’s been great, I’ve been missing some of the detailed metrics that Pi-hole offered. Specifically, I was really fond of Pi-hole’s breakdown of which DNS servers handle upstream queries. To tackle this, I decided to create my own Telegraf input using the AdGuard API and InfluxDB. I’ve managed to get a basic dashboard set up, but I’m still working on adding some line charts to track trends over time. If anyone is interested in collaborating or sharing their configurations, I’d love to hear from you!

On another note, I’ve been working on automating my home’s lighting system using Ring’s motion sensors. The challenge here is that the binary sensor created by the Ring camera only stays active for a short period, which isn’t enough for my needs. I’ve tried setting up a template sensor based on the event, but I’m not quite getting the results I want. Specifically, I need the sensor to stay active for 15 seconds after detecting motion to ensure the lights stay on long enough. Does anyone have any tips or tricks for achieving this?

Lastly, I’ve been experimenting with integrating different brands of smart devices into my ecosystem. While most devices work seamlessly, there are a few that require some extra tweaking. For instance, I recently set up a Fibaro Roller Shutter 3, and I’m trying to figure out how to enable the button controls for opening, stopping, and closing, similar to how it works with the Roller Shutter 2. If anyone has any insights or workarounds, I’d really appreciate it!

This journey into smart home automation is both exciting and a bit challenging, but I’m learning so much along the way. I’d love to hear your thoughts, experiences, and any advice you might have. Let’s keep the conversation going and help each other out as we continue to explore the world of smart homes!
