Exploring Alternatives to IFTTT for Event Logging and Automation

As many of us are aware, IFTTT is discontinuing its free tier, which has been a cornerstone for many of our smart home automations. I’ve been using IFTTT to create a unified Event Log in Google Sheets, which has been incredibly useful for tracking various events in my smart home. However, with the upcoming changes, I’m now on the hunt for alternative solutions that can replicate this functionality without the need for a paid subscription.

One feature I particularly love about Google Sheets is its ability to be shared while maintaining read-only access for dashboards. It’s also great for automatic filtering and formatting, which keeps everything neat and organized. Plus, having a permanent record of events is invaluable for troubleshooting and analysis. I’m curious to know how others are tackling this challenge. Are there any apps or integrations that can replicate this functionality? I’ve come across the Event Logger App, but it doesn’t quite meet all my needs, especially regarding permanence.

Another area I’m exploring is camera automation. I recently upgraded my Wyze Cam V3, and while it’s a solid device, I’ve noticed an issue where the camera disconnects from Wi-Fi when the siren is activated. This is quite inconvenient, as it requires manual reconnection each time. If anyone has encountered this issue or found a workaround, I’d love to hear about it.

On a lighter note, I’ve been experimenting with automating my garden lights. Using a combination of motion sensors and time-based triggers, I’ve set up a system where the lights come on at dusk and turn off at dawn, but only during certain weekdays. It’s been a fun project, and I’d be happy to share the setup if anyone is interested.

If anyone has tips or recommendations for alternative automation tools or solutions for the issues I’ve mentioned, please do share! I’m excited to learn from the community and hopefully find some innovative solutions.
