First off, I’ve been working on improving the BLE connectivity in my setup, specifically with Samsung devices running Android 10 & 11. While it works seamlessly on Android 12 and 13, as well as other brands like OPPO and Realme, Samsung phones have been a bit stubborn. Has anyone encountered similar issues or found a workaround? On a different note, I’ve been experimenting with doorbell cameras and image processing. I’m using a Pi4 with Raspbian and openHAB 3.4.0, and I’m trying to write the base64 encoded image from my doorbell to disk in JPG format using ECMA-2021 scripting. I’ve managed to get it working with some trial and error, but I’m still a bit fuzzy on the exact steps to ensure it converts correctly every time. If anyone has a solid script or tips, I’d love to hear them!
Another area I’m exploring is integrating smart devices with voice commands. I came across an idea to automate a swing-out panel in a pool house bar, complete with LED lights and a Sonos system. The plan is to control it via a Z-Wave switch and trigger it with voice commands like “Alexa, turn on party mode.” It’s a fun project, but I’m a bit unsure about the best way to set up the automation and ensure smooth operation. Any advice or similar experiences would be invaluable.
Lastly, I’ve been looking into optimizing energy usage with my solar setup. I’m aiming to automate my home’s energy consumption to prioritize using solar power first, then battery storage, and finally grid electricity. This involves controlling appliances like the washing machine and electric vehicle charger based on the available solar surplus. I’m still in the planning phase, but I’m curious about how others have approached similar setups and what tools or automations they recommend.
