Hi everyone, I’ve been diving into some interesting projects lately and wanted to share my experiences and questions with you all. First off, I’ve been trying to set up a presence detection system using my Android phone as a Bluetooth beacon. I came across this link about the official Bluetooth binding for OpenHAB, which got me excited. My goal is simple: detect if myself or my wife is at work, and track general hours worked. I’ve realized that my phone only reports to OpenHAB when in pair mode, which isn’t ideal for constant monitoring. I’ve tried several apps, but none have worked as hoped. Does anyone know of an Android app that can run in the background, act as a beacon, and report to OpenHAB at set intervals? It would be amazing if this could be done without an app, but I’m not sure how. I’d love to hear your thoughts or experiences on this!
On another note, I’ve been working on updating the Z-Wave database for my ZEN22 switch. I noticed that the version numbers are a bit confusing—PaperUI shows zwave_version 3.5, HABmin shows Firmware Version 3.5, but the XML file shows version 4. I’m not sure which version to use for the database update. This will be my first time updating the database, so I want to make sure I get it right. Has anyone else encountered this and can offer some guidance?
Lastly, I’ve been exploring the use of NFC tags with Hubitat. I created a local endpoint for an NFC tag, but when I tried to copy the URL, I got an unexpected error. I was under the impression that it would generate a URL for use with the NFC Tools app. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong here. Any insights or tips would be greatly appreciated!
I’d love to hear from anyone who has tackled similar projects or has advice on these topics. Thanks for your help and insights!
