Exploring Common Patterns in Rule Machine for Enhanced Automation

Hello fellow smart home enthusiasts! I’ve been diving into the world of Rule Machine (RM) over the past few months, and while I’ve had some success, I still find it a bit daunting. The documentation is great, but putting everything together can be tricky. I’ve started experimenting with local booleans to control more complex rules, which has been a fun challenge!

I’m curious if the community has identified any common patterns for setting up rules and triggers. For example, I’ve been using simple rules and triggers with no dependencies, but I’d love to explore more advanced setups. I’ve heard about using private booleans to control event flows, which seems powerful but a bit complex for me right now.

One area I’m particularly interested in is motion lighting. I’ve tried setting it up a few times but haven’t had much luck. If anyone has a go-to pattern or example for motion-activated lighting, I’d be thrilled to hear about it! I think having a set of 6-12 common patterns could really help newcomers like me get started without feeling overwhelmed.

What do you think? Could we work together to outline some basic patterns that others can build upon? I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences. Let’s make RM more accessible to everyone! :rocket:
