Exploring Custom Automation Solutions with Multiple Brands

I’m thrilled to dive into the world of smart home automation and see how far I can push the envelope with various devices and systems. My journey began with a desire to integrate several smart devices from different brands, each offering unique features that I wanted to leverage. However, I’ve encountered a few bumps along the way that I’d love to get some advice on.

One of my current projects involves setting up location-based automations. I’ve configured a routine that’s supposed to trigger when I arrive home, turning on lights, adjusting the thermostat, and opening the garage door. While most of these actions work seamlessly, the garage door remains stubbornly closed. The logs indicate an ‘unknown’ device error, which is perplexing since my phone is recognized as a presence sensor. I’m curious if anyone has encountered similar issues and how they resolved them.

Another area I’m exploring is creating a personalized dashboard using an Ambient screen on my Samsung TV. I envision a setup that displays a calendar, weather updates, a to-do list, and even some trading data. While I know the basics of REST APIs and text-to-speech, I’m unsure how to bring all these elements together in a cohesive way. Is there a community-developed Ambient dashboard that integrates such features, or perhaps someone who has successfully created something similar?

I’m also intrigued by the idea of using the Ambient SDK to display dynamic content like weather charts or stock market trends. It would be fantastic to have this information at a glance without relying on external devices. Additionally, the thought of having the TV read out my daily schedule using text-to-speech in the morning is both convenient and futuristic.

If anyone has insights or tips on troubleshooting the garage door issue or advice on developing a custom Ambient dashboard, I’d be incredibly grateful. This project is a labor of love, and I’m eager to learn from the experiences of others in the community.
