Exploring Custom Switches and Status Bars in Home Assistant

Hey everyone! I’ve been diving into the world of Home Assistant and it’s been an absolute blast. One feature I’ve been particularly excited about is customizing switches to show more detailed statuses. I came across a post where someone wanted to display the percentage progress of their coffee machine instead of just “on” or “off”. That really sparked my curiosity!

I’ve been using a coffee machine integrated with Home Assistant and it’s been working like a charm. The switch I set up sends specific settings to the machine, and it automatically turns off once the program finishes. But I can’t help but wonder—what if I could see the exact progress of my coffee brewing? Imagine not having to glance at another entity on my dashboard just to know how much longer my coffee will take!

I looked into the status bar option in Home Assistant, but it seems like it requires a separate card, which might clutter my interface. I’m really hoping there’s a way to integrate this progress bar directly into the switch itself. I’ve started tinkering with some code, but I’m still not quite there. If anyone has any tips or resources, I’d be thrilled to hear them!

This journey has reminded me just how powerful and customizable Home Assistant is. It’s amazing how a community-driven platform can inspire such creativity and problem-solving. I can’t wait to see what other cool features I can implement in my setup!

Cheers to all the innovators out there—let’s keep pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with smart home tech!
