Exploring Energy Monitoring and Automation in OpenHAB

Hi everyone, I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation lately, and I’m really excited to share some of my experiences and questions with you all. I’ve been using OpenHAB for a while now, but I’m always looking for ways to enhance my setup, especially when it comes to energy monitoring and automation.

One area I’ve been focusing on lately is energy consumption tracking. I’m an Octopus Energy customer, and I’ve heard that they have an API that provides detailed data on gas and electricity usage, as well as current electricity rates. I’m curious to know if there’s a way to integrate this data directly into OpenHAB 3. It would be fantastic to have real-time consumption and cost rates displayed on my dashboard. I’ve come across some discussions about using APIs with OpenHAB, but I’m not entirely sure how to proceed. Has anyone successfully implemented something similar?

Another project I’ve been working on is automating my ventilation system. I recently came across a DIY project that uses CC1150 modules to control an ITHO ventilation box. While the idea sounds great, I’m not very experienced with ESP or Arduino, and I’d prefer to run this directly from my Raspberry Pi, which is also my OpenHAB server. I’ve looked into some GitHub repositories, but I’m not sure how to adapt them for my setup. If anyone has any tips or has tried something like this before, I’d love to hear about your experiences!

On a different note, I’ve been dealing with some system errors in OpenHAB. I’ve noticed warnings related to asynchronous processing not being supported on a Servlet 2.x container. These errors pop up when PaperUI is running, which makes troubleshooting a bit challenging. I’ve tried restarting OpenHAB and my Raspberry Pi, but the issue persists. I’m wondering if this is a known problem and if there’s a workaround or fix available. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Lastly, I’d love to hear about how others are monitoring and automating their energy usage. Are there any specific devices, integrations, or rules that you’ve found particularly effective? I’m always looking for new ideas and strategies to optimize my smart home setup. Feel free to share your experiences, tips, or even just some inspiration!

Thanks in advance for your help and insights. I’m really looking forward to learning more and connecting with the community!
