Hi everyone, I’ve been diving into the world of ESPHome and Zigbee integration recently, and I wanted to share some of my experiences and questions with you all. ![]()
First off, I’ve been really impressed with ESPHome’s capabilities. It’s such a versatile platform for creating custom IoT solutions. However, I’ve encountered a peculiar issue with authentication timeouts. After some time in continuous operation, certain ESPHome devices throw an ‘Authentication Expired’ error. I’ve tried resetting them, but it’s inconsistent—some devices recover with a simple click, while others persistently show the error. Has anyone else faced this, or know of a workaround? ![]()
Moving on to Zigbee, I’ve been experimenting with Zigbee2MQTT as a replacement for ZHA. Following Simon’s guide, I set up Zigbee2MQTT on my Raspberry Pi 4 with a SONOFF Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus. Everything seemed to go smoothly during installation, but I hit a snag when starting Zigbee2MQTT. The logs showed an error related to the Ezsp driver, specifically mentioning that the connection wasn’t initialized. I’ve checked the troubleshooting guide, but nothing seems to resolve the issue. Any insights would be greatly appreciated! ![]()
On a lighter note, I’ve also been exploring the integration of various Zigbee devices. It’s fascinating how these devices can work seamlessly together once properly configured. I’m particularly excited about the potential of GreenPower devices, though I understand they might require specific handling. If anyone has tips on optimizing Zigbee networks or troubleshooting common issues, I’d love to hear them! ![]()
Lastly, I wanted to mention my experience with ESPHome’s API keys. It’s been a bit of a puzzle figuring out why some devices accept the default keys while others demand manual configuration. I’m curious if there’s a more systematic approach to managing API keys across multiple ESPHome devices. ![]()
All in all, it’s been a rollercoaster of learning and problem-solving. I’m excited to continue exploring these technologies and hope to contribute more to the community as I go. If anyone has advice, tips, or just wants to chat about their experiences, feel free to drop a comment! Thanks for reading, and happy tinkering! ![]()
