After diving into the world of smart home automation, I’ve been experimenting with various Z-Wave devices to enhance my setup. Recently, I came across the Sonoff BasicZBR3, a Zigbee device that doubles as a repeater, and it’s been a game-changer for my network coverage. However, I’m now looking to take things a step further by upgrading some of my existing Z-Wave devices to Gen5 to potentially improve range and reliability.
Currently, I have a mix of Greenwave, Aeotec, and TKB Z-Wave wall sockets. While the Aeotec and TKB devices are Gen5, the Greenwave ones aren’t. From what I understand, Gen5 offers better range and performance, but if any device on the network isn’t Gen5, the entire network might fall back to an older protocol. My question is, if I replace the Greenwave sockets with newer Gen5 models, will my network automatically switch to Gen5? Will I see a noticeable improvement in range without needing additional configuration? I’m eager to hear from others who’ve gone through a similar upgrade process and how it impacted their smart home setups.
I’m also curious about whether there are any potential pitfalls or steps I should take before making the switch. Any insights or recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences. ![]()
