Exploring Google Assistant Commands and Philips Hue Integration

Hello everyone! I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation lately, and I wanted to share some of my experiences and questions with you all.

First off, I’ve been trying to set up a system where I can yell at my Google speakers to turn off the lights, and have Home Assistant recognize that command specifically from Google. My goal is to activate a “nap mode” where the lights stay off for two hours. I’ve been using a presence sensor that automatically turns on the lights if someone is in the room, but it’s not ideal for situations like watching a movie or taking a nap.

I’ve tried using the debug event listener to spot any unique identifiers from Google Assistant, but I haven’t found anything yet. Does anyone know if there’s a way to identify triggers specifically from Google Assistant? I’d love to avoid creating a custom routine if possible.

On another note, I’ve been having some issues with my Philips Hue v1 Hub. It stopped responding to Hassio today, even though the app on my phone still works fine. I’m on the same VLAN as the hub and Hassio, and I upgraded some network gear today, but nothing else has changed. The IP addresses match, and the hub has a fixed IP via DHCP. I’m not sure where to go from here. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I also wanted to touch on something I’ve been considering—using a simple Sonoff to bridge a thermostat instead of buying something like an Ecobee. I’m curious if there’s something I’m missing here. Would a Sonoff setup really be able to replicate the same functionality as a dedicated thermostat? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this.

Lastly, I’ve been experimenting with Monet 3’s light effects, and I have to say, the pastel colors in the “Another Waterlilies” preset are absolutely stunning. It’s been a great way to set the mood in my living room.

Thanks for reading, and I look forward to hearing your insights and experiences! :star2:
