I recently updated my Govee app to the latest version, v5.1, and I must say, it’s been an exciting experience! The new features are quite impressive, but I wanted to share some of my observations and tips for others who might be considering the update.
One of the first things I noticed was the change in how DIYs are saved. Previously, I could save them right next to the apply button, which was very convenient. Now, it seems I have to navigate to the bottom right corner where the star is to save my DIYs. While this might seem a bit inconvenient at first, I’ve found that it actually helps me organize my projects better. I’d love to hear if others have found this change helpful or if they’re still adjusting to it.
Another feature I’ve been experimenting with is the integration of multiple devices. I’ve been trying to set up a distributed home automation system using Raspberry Pi units for different rooms, and while it’s been a bit challenging, I’ve managed to create a central server that manages all the commands. This setup has allowed me to control everything from a single interface, which is incredibly satisfying. If anyone has tips on optimizing this setup, I’d be happy to hear them!
I also wanted to touch on the issue of devices disconnecting, which I’ve heard others mention as well. I’ve had my Daikin AC unit for over a decade, and while it’s always worked well with Google Home, it recently started disconnecting. Relinking it each time is a hassle, but I’ve found that keeping the unit on helps maintain the connection. I’m curious if others have experienced similar issues and how they’ve resolved them.
Lastly, I’ve been exploring the new DIY features introduced in the update. Creating custom effects has been a lot of fun, and I’ve managed to design some pretty cool lighting setups. If anyone has any favorite DIY effects or tips for designing them, I’d love to hear about them!
Overall, the Govee update has been a great addition to my smart home setup. It’s been a journey of discovery, and I’m excited to see what other features and improvements the future holds. Happy tinkering everyone! ![]()
