Exploring Govee's New Survey and Smart Lighting Automation

Hey everyone! :star2: I just wanted to share my recent experience with Govee’s new survey and how it inspired me to dive deeper into my smart lighting setup. First off, I completed Govee’s latest survey and earned those 50 points—always a nice little reward! It got me thinking about how much I’ve come to rely on my Govee devices around the house.

Speaking of which, I’ve been experimenting with automating my Philips Hue lights using Node-RED. I set up a flow where my outdoor lights turn on 30 minutes after sunset and off 30 minutes before sunrise. It works like a charm, but I wanted to add a festive touch for holidays like St. Patrick’s Day. I figured out a way to change the light colors based on the date using Node-RED’s time-range-switch node. It was a bit of a puzzle, but now my lights glow green on March 17th! :four_leaf_clover:

I also came across some interesting discussions about using MQTT to control devices like Wemo and Hue. It’s fascinating how MQTT can act as a universal language for smart home devices. I’m curious if anyone else has successfully integrated MQTT into their setup for more complex automations.

On another note, I stumbled upon a post about setting up a sensor to track how long a gate is open. It reminded me of a project I’ve been eyeing—creating a smart garage door monitor. I’m thinking of using a similar approach with a sensor and a timer to keep track of how long the door stays open. It’s all about making small improvements to enhance convenience and security!

I’d love to hear from others who’ve tackled similar projects or have tips for optimizing home automation setups. Let’s keep the ideas flowing and support each other in our smart home journeys! :rocket:
