Exploring Home Assistant's Media Server Capabilities

Hi everyone, I’m really excited to share my experience with Home Assistant’s media server features introduced in version 0.115! The addition of the media browser and web player has been a game-changer for me, especially for accessing camera recordings and managing my media library. However, I’ve been wondering if there’s a way to enhance the web player further—specifically, adding playlist functionality. I’d love to have the ability to auto-play the next song in a queue, whether it’s in shuffle mode or sequentially. This would make listening to music on my phone or laptop through Home Assistant even more seamless!

While I’m aware of alternative media servers like Plex, I’d prefer to stick with Home Assistant since most of the features I need are already built-in. Plus, avoiding reliance on external services like Plex’s servers feels more private and streamlined. Has anyone else explored this or found a workaround? I’d love to hear your thoughts or any creative solutions you’ve come up with!

On a related note, I’ve also been experimenting with integrating multiple smart devices from different brands. It’s been a fascinating journey, though not without its challenges. For instance, ensuring compatibility between Zigbee and Z-Wave devices can sometimes be tricky, but the rewards of a fully integrated smart home system are well worth the effort.

Looking forward to hearing from the community and learning more about how others are leveraging Home Assistant’s capabilities!
