After spending years setting up a semi-smart home with Shelly devices, I’ve been contemplating whether to integrate a Homey into my setup. My journey began in 2021 when I decided to outfit my house with Shelly 1s and 2.5s for lighting and roller shutters, along with an i4 for scene management. It’s been a solid foundation, but with the arrival of a new family member, I’m eager to explore more advanced automation features.
One of the scenarios I envision is a ‘Family Arrival’ scene. Imagine pulling into the driveway with a sleeping child, and with just a touch via Apple CarPlay, the house adjusts—dimming lights softly and illuminating the nursery. Another idea is a ‘Post-Shower Privacy’ scene, where lights in the bathroom turn on, music starts, and roller shutters close automatically, ensuring privacy as we move through the house.
While Shelly has served me well, I’m intrigued by Homey’s ability to integrate a wider variety of sensors and devices, which could unlock even more possibilities. The user interface and design of Homey also appeal to me, making the system more user-friendly. However, I’m concerned about compatibility with my existing Shelly devices and whether integrating Homey will complicate my setup.
I’d love to hear from others who’ve made the switch or have experience with both systems. How seamless is the integration? Are there any hidden challenges I should be aware of? Let’s discuss and explore how to enhance our smart homes together!
