Hello everyone! I wanted to share my recent journey into the world of home automation, specifically with temperature sensors and boiler controls. It’s been quite an adventure, and I hope to inspire others who are just starting out or looking to enhance their setups.
I recently set up a temperature sensor for my boiler, which can be heated using two different energy sources. My goal was to create a system that tracks the energy usage from each source accurately. To achieve this, I designed a template trigger sensor that updates based on the difference between the current and previous temperature readings. However, I encountered a hiccup when the sensor reset to zero and became ‘unknown’ when the burner was turned off. After some troubleshooting, I realized the issue was with the conditional logic in the sensor’s configuration. I adjusted the conditions to ensure the sensor retains its value when the burner is off, which solved the problem. This experience taught me the importance of thorough testing and understanding the underlying logic of my automations.
Another area I’ve been exploring is the integration of multiple smart devices from different brands. It’s fascinating how seamlessly they can work together once properly configured. For instance, I’ve been experimenting with using motion sensors and contact detectors to create a more dynamic home security system. One idea I’m particularly excited about is setting up a routine where the lights turn on and the thermostat adjusts based on the time of day and my presence. This not only enhances comfort but also helps in energy conservation.
I’d love to hear from others who have successfully integrated various smart devices or have creative automation ideas. What challenges have you faced, and how did you overcome them? Let’s continue to learn and grow together in this amazing community!
Happy automating everyone! ![]()
