Exploring HomeKit Integration with Aqara Devices

After moving into my new house, I’ve been diving into the world of HomeKit to streamline my smart home setup. I recently acquired an Aqara camera hub and some smart sockets, aiming to integrate them seamlessly with my Apple ecosystem. However, I’ve encountered a few hurdles that I’d love to share and hopefully get some insights on.

Initially, I reset my Aqara camera hub and tried adding it through Apple Home. The process seemed straightforward, but I was met with a spinning wheel that never progressed. Frustrated, I switched to starting from Apple Home, which allowed me to install the camera successfully. However, my Aqara smart sockets posed a problem. If I added them through the Aqara app first, they appeared in Apple Home but didn’t respond. And without the packaging, I couldn’t add them directly through Apple Home. It’s a bit perplexing why HomeKit doesn’t show these devices under the ‘Connect to ecosystems’ section in the Aqara app.

After some research and trial and error, I discovered that manually adding the devices through the Aqara app and then letting them sync with HomeKit was the workaround. It’s not the smooth experience I was hoping for, but it gets the job done. I’d love to hear if others have found a more seamless method or if there are any tips to make this integration smoother.

On a positive note, once everything is set up, the integration works beautifully. The camera provides excellent video quality, and the smart sockets offer reliable automation. It’s just a matter of overcoming the initial setup challenges. I’m excited to continue exploring how to optimize my smart home setup and would love to hear any experiences or advice from the community!
