Exploring Hubitat and Harmony Integration for a Smarter Home

Hi everyone, I’m thrilled to share my journey as I transition to a new smart home setup using Hubitat and Harmony Companion. Moving to America has been an exciting adventure, and I’m eager to integrate my existing Ikea smart devices with this new ecosystem. Here are some thoughts and questions I’ve been pondering:

  1. Hubitat Setup and Connectivity: I received a Hubitat hub from a friend and am eager to connect it to my Wi-Fi since I’m renting and can’t run Ethernet lines. Does anyone have tips on ensuring a stable connection? Also, I’m often away on business trips. How reliable is remote access to the Hubitat controller?

  2. Security Concerns: With security being a top priority, I’m curious about any known vulnerabilities in Hubitat. Have others encountered any issues, and what steps did you take to secure your setup?

  3. Harmony Companion Integration: I’ve been using a Harmony Home Companion remote with my SmartThings setup and want to integrate it with Hubitat. From what I’ve read, using Emulated Hue or Emulated Roku are the primary methods. I currently have a Hue hub configured with Alexa and Google Home. If I use Emulated Hue, will Alexa see my devices twice? And what about using Emulated Roku if I don’t have any Roku devices? Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

  4. Tips for Seamless Integration: I’m also looking for tips on ensuring a smooth transition. For instance, how do others handle device discovery and setup? Any best practices for organizing devices or creating routines?

I’m really looking forward to hearing your experiences and advice. Let’s make this transition as seamless and enjoyable as possible!

Cheers,
