I’ve recently transitioned from SmartThings to Hubitat, and I must say, the experience has been quite rewarding. I’ve been experimenting with some interesting automation setups, and I’d love to share my journey and insights with the community.
One of my favorite projects involves integrating an Inovelli Red switch with a Sengled color-changing bulb. The goal was to create a custom tap sequence for different colors. After some trial and error, I managed to set it up so that tapping the switch twice sets the bulb to red, and three taps switch it to blue. It’s a neat way to customize the ambiance without constantly fiddling with the app.
Another intriguing challenge was controlling an outdoor floodlight with a motion sensor override. The light has a feature where turning it off for three seconds disables the motion sensor for six hours. I wanted to automate this process. Through some research and experimentation, I figured out how to program the Inovelli Red switch to execute the power cycle routine with a single touch. It’s a simple yet effective solution for those late-night arrivals when I don’t want the lights to turn off unexpectedly.
I also explored scheduling with Hubitat. I have a rule that dims a light at 10:12 PM, but only if it’s already on. This required a bit of logic in the rules engine, but it worked out perfectly. It’s moments like these that make me appreciate the flexibility and power of Hubitat’s automation capabilities.
One thing I’d love to hear more about is how others handle similar scenarios. For instance, if you have devices with unique features, how do you integrate them into your smart home ecosystem? Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated!
Overall, my experience with Hubitat has been nothing short of impressive. The platform’s versatility and the active community support make it an excellent choice for both newcomers and seasoned tinkerers. I’m excited to continue exploring and enhancing my smart home setup with Hubitat.
