I’ve recently been diving into the world of smart home automation, and I must say, it’s been an exciting journey! One of my latest projects has been integrating my Hue lights with OpenHAB. While I’ve managed to get the basics set up, I’m hitting a bit of a snag with the scene synchronization. Let me walk you through my experience and see if anyone can shed some light on this (pun intended)!
So, here’s the deal: I’ve successfully integrated my Hue lights into OpenHAB, and I’ve even created an item for the light scene using one of my light groups. According to the documentation, this should allow me to switch scenes both from the Hue app and OpenHAB. However, I’ve noticed that when I change the scene via the Hue app or remote control, the item in OpenHAB doesn’t update to reflect the current scene. It’s a bit frustrating because the reverse works perfectly—changing the scene from OpenHAB syncs without any issues.
My goal here is to use this setup to trigger a smart plug when a certain scene is activated. Specifically, I want an additional light (not part of the Hue system) to turn on when a particular scene is selected. This would be perfect for creating a more immersive lighting experience, especially in areas where I don’t have Hue bulbs installed.
I’ve scoured the forums and documentation, but I’m still not quite sure where the disconnect is. Is there a specific setting I’m missing in OpenHAB? Or perhaps a configuration tweak that needs to be made on the Hue side? Any insights would be incredibly appreciated!
On a lighter note, I’ve also been experimenting with some out-of-the-box ideas for placing Govee lights. Under the bed and in the bathroom are two areas I’m considering. It’s amazing how a little creativity can transform the ambiance of a space!
To anyone out there who’s tackled similar projects or has tips for optimizing scene integration, I’d love to hear your experiences. Happy automating everyone! ![]()
