Exploring Local Control Solutions with Google Home

Hey everyone, I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation lately, and I’m really curious about how to make everything work without relying on the internet. Specifically, I’ve been trying to figure out if there’s a way to use Google Home to control my devices locally. You know, something that works even when the internet is down—like during those pesky power outages or Wi-Fi drops we all experience from time to time.

I’ve heard a bit about solutions like emulated Hue and HABridge, but from what I gather, they don’t seem to be working as smoothly as they used to. I’m wondering if anyone out there has found a reliable workaround or a different approach altogether. Maybe there’s a way to set up a local server or a Raspberry Pi to handle the commands without hitting the cloud?

Let me share what I’ve tried so far. I’ve looked into using an ESP32 as a Bluetooth proxy to control my lights, but I’m running into some issues with the binary sensor not showing up in Home Assistant. It’s a bit frustrating because I know the devices are there, but they just don’t seem to communicate properly. I’ve double-checked my YAML configurations, and everything looks correct, but the problem persists.

On another note, I’ve been experimenting with creating my own functions in Vera to simplify my scenes. For example, instead of typing out long luup calls every time, I’ve written a few shortcuts to make my life easier. It’s been a fun challenge, but I’m still figuring out how to organize all these functions so they’re easily accessible. I’ve read a bit about creating XML files to store them, but I’m not quite there yet. Any tips or best practices would be greatly appreciated!

I’m also curious about how others handle their lighting setups. I’ve heard some people talk about using RGBIC LED strips with Immersion TV kits, but I’m not sure how well they sync up. I’ve got some RGBIC strips myself, and I’d love to integrate them into my setup without too much hassle. If anyone has experience with this, I’d love to hear about your experiences and any tricks you’ve picked up along the way.

Lastly, I’ve been thinking about how to optimize my smart home for energy efficiency. I’ve got a Qubino 3-Phase Smart Meter, but it only updates when I manually refresh it. That’s not ideal, especially when I’m trying to monitor my usage in real-time. I’ve checked the debug logs, and it seems like the hub is receiving data, but it’s not updating the states automatically. I’m hoping someone out there has a solution for this or can shed some light on why it’s happening.

All in all, I’m really enjoying the journey of learning and customizing my smart home, but there are definitely a few bumps along the road. I’m excited to see what solutions the community comes up with and can’t wait to dive deeper into these projects!
