Hi everyone, I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation and recently decided to explore how I can integrate my APC Smart-UPS SMT750IC with my existing setup. I came across the Modbus-over-TCP feature mentioned in the latest firmware update, and I’m really excited about the possibilities this opens up! ![]()
I’ve been using SmartConnect for a while now, and while it’s been functional, I’ve always felt it was a bit limited. Updating the firmware from the cloud was a breeze, especially since I don’t have a Windows machine. I also managed to get it working with APCUPSD using the included USB cable and ModBus connected to my Mac. The working configuration was pretty straightforward, but I couldn’t help but wonder why they used a double-ended USB-A cable instead of the more common USB A>B type. Maybe it’s a design choice for stability? Not sure, but it works!
Now, with the Modbus-over-TCP feature, I’m hoping to connect APCUPSD to my UPS over the network via the SmartConnect port. The firmware update mentions enabling Modbus over TCP/IP through the embedded SmartConnect port, which sounds promising. I’ve enabled the necessary settings in the advanced configuration, but I’m still not entirely sure how to proceed. Does anyone have experience with this setup? Any tips or resources would be greatly appreciated!
I’m also curious about the practical applications of this feature. How can I leverage Modbus-over-TCP to enhance my home automation setup? Maybe integrating it with my existing smart home ecosystem for better monitoring and control? The possibilities are endless, and I can’t wait to explore them further. If anyone has successfully implemented something similar, I’d love to hear about your experiences!
Thanks in advance for your insights and suggestions! Happy automating! ![]()
